چکیده

In this chapter we introduce the problem of identity inference as a generalization of person re-identification. It is most appropriate to distinguish identity inference from re-identification in situations where a large number of observations must be identified without knowing a priori that groups of test images represent the same individual. The standard singleand multi-shot person re-identification common in the literature are special cases of our formulation. We present an approach to solving identity inference by modeling it as a labeling problem in a Conditional Random Field (CRF). The CRF model ensures that the final labeling gives similar labels to detections that are similar in feature space. Experimental results are given on the ETHZ, i-LIDS and CAVIAR datasets. Our approach yields state-of-the-art performance for multi-shot reidentification, and our results on the more general identity inference problem demonstrate that we are able to infer the identity of very many examples even with very few labelled images in the gallery.

Identity Inference: Generalizing Person Re-identification Scenarios

In this article we introduce the problem of identity inference as a generalization of the re-identification problem. Identity inference is applicable in situations where a large number of unknown persons must be identified without knowing a priori that groups of test images represent the same individual. Standard singleand multi-shot person re-identification are special cases of our formulation...

Distributed Bayesian inference for consistent labeling of tracked objects in non-overlapping camera networks

One of the fundamental requirements for visual surveillance using non-overlapping camera networks is the correct labeling of tracked objects on each camera in a consistent way, in the sense that the captured tracklets, or observations in this paper, of the same object at different cameras should be assigned with the same label. In this paper, we formulate this task as a Bayesian inference probl...

Connecting Image Similarity Retrieval with Consistent Labeling Problem by Introducing a Match-all Label

Our work in image similarity retrieval by relaxation labeling processes [1] required adding local constraints to obtain an initial set of compatible objects and labels on pairs of images to ensure labeling consistency at convergence. This approach suffers from the problem of over-specified constraints that leads to potentially invaluable information being prematurely removed. To address this pr...

Multi-target Tracking on a Large Scale: Experiences from Football Player Tracking

Multi-target tracking requires locating the targets and labeling their identities. The latter is a challenge when many targets, with indistinct appearances, frequently occlude one another, as in football and surveillance tracking. We present an approach to solving this labeling problem. When isolated, a target can be tracked and its identity maintained. While, if targets interact this is not al...

Finite Domain Constraints in Constraint Logic Programming

We describe the techniques used in finite domain contraint solvers in the Constraint Logic Programming (CLP) paradigm and present the language and system clp(FD) developped at INRIA. These schemes are based on local propagation techniques developed for finite domain constraints. Such techniques stem from Constraint Satisfaction Problems in Artificial Intelligence and have been introduced in Con...
